Invitation
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology- Jammu and Indian Society of Animal Genetics and Breeding (ISAGB) have great pleasure in inviting you to attend the National Conference on “Indigenous Animal Genetic Resources for Enhancing Productivity and Profitability” and the Annual Convention of Indian Society of Animal Genetics and Breeding (ISAGB) during 29-30 May, 2019; at Jammu. The two day conference will bring together leading researchers in the field of Animal Genetics and Breeding and identify research priorities using novel technologies for enhancing productivity and profitability of livestock farmers. The main emphasis of the conference is use of novel techniques for updating the knowledge on indigenous livestock and poultry recourses for enhancing the economic condition of rural people. The Conference will also discuss and deliberate various aspects of livestock diversity & conservation, Biostatistics, Bio-informatics, genome editing and sustainable management of indigenous livestock and poultry genetic resources. The society encourages the young researchers, scientists and students for presenting their original research works by awarding them appropriately under different themes of conference.
About the Society
The Indian Society of Animal Genetics and Breeding (ISAGB) is one of the oldest Societies of Animal Sciences that was registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 17th April 1984 with main aims and objectives of (i) Advancement of science and art of Animal Genetics and Breeding in all aspects by dissemination and application of knowledge gained from experiments and experience, (ii) Provision of opportunities for exchange of knowledge and ideas through discussions and other means and for collaboration between persons interested in different fields of Animal Genetics and Breeding, (iii) Organization of conference, symposia, seminars etc., and other periodicals meetings. (iv) Initiation and promotion of research in all fields of Animal Genetics and Breeding, (v) Publication of scientific and technical journals, policy papers, memoirs, monographs, bulletin, pamphlets etc., on subjects related to Animal Genetics and Breeding, (vi) Providing financial and other assistance for education and research or development activities in the field of Animal Genetics and Breeding. All income of the society is utilized towards the protection of aims and objectives of the society.
About SKUAST Jammu
SKUAST Jammu is mandated with the responsibility of teaching, research and extension education in the field of agriculture, veterinary & animal husbandry, horticulture and allied sciences namely biotechnology, basic sciences and agribusiness management. The university presently has three teaching faculties viz. Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Faculty of Basic Sciences in addition to School of Biotechnology. SKUAST Jammu has its headquarters at Chatha Jammu and FVSc & AH at R.S. Pura which is about 15 from the Jammu Airport, 18 km from Jammu Railway Station and 20 km from the main bus stand. About Jammu City
The city of Jammu is winter capital of J&K state and known as city of temples. It is also base for visiting various centres of tourist and pilgrimage interest. Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi is at a distance of 45km from Jammu. Today, the city of Jammu has come to be known as the ‘City of Temples’. There are other places of tourists’ interest in and around Jammu viz. Patnitop, Mansar Lake, Raghunath Temple, Shivkhori, Asia’s largest aquarium, Amar Mahal etc. Jammu is well connected by air, rail and road with all parts of the India. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine: A pilgrimage to the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji is considered to be one of the holiest pilgrimages among Hindus. Vaishno Devi’s shrine resides in a holy cave located in the folds of the three peaked mountain named Trikuta. The Holy Cave is situated at an altitude of 5200 ft. The Yatris have to undertake a trek of nearly 14.5 km from the base camp at Katra. At the culmination of their pilgrimage, the yatris see three natural rock formation known as ‘Pindies’ inside the holy cave.
Climate
Jammu, like the rest of north-western India, features a humid subtropical climate. The region experiences extreme climates in winter and summers. Usually in October the temperature ranges from 16°C during night to 32°C during day time.
About the Conference
The Indian Society of Animal Genetics and Breeding (ISAGB) in collaboration with SKUAST-J is organizing its XIV National Symposium on “Exploring the Potential for Sustainable Use of Indigenous Animal Genetic Resources for Enhancing Productivity and Profitability” during 17-18 April, 2019 at Jammu (J&K). The main emphasis of this conference is to bring together community of core Animal Breeders and Geneticists, Researchers, Teachers to discuss areas of shared interest for Indigenous Animal Genetic Resources as well as to provide new directions in research in this field for improving the economic condition of the farmers.
Awards:
- Two P.N. Bhat Best Paper Awards for 2017 and 2018: Two (2) Best Paper Awards, one each for 2017 and 2018, will be given during the symposium. Each award will comprise of a certificate to all the authors and a cheque of Rs. 5,000/- to the first author.
